This is one of the most popular Japanese Ramen places in NYC. You probably will have to wait whenever you come for a bit. RCSIII and I came here together a week before he left for Taiwan, and he loved it.
We arrived hungry, so besides our individual ramen bowls, we ordered the "Hirata Buns" (see bicture above). It was steamed buns filled with your choice of pork or chicken, served with ippudo original spicy buns sauce. Of course we went for pork (if you are Asian, you'll know that you should always order port with this). It was petite (smaller and more expensive than what I'll get back in Asia) but still very delicious. We both loved it and were so excited to have their ramen.

Hum...What's going on with my nicolicious life recently?

Oh well, after RCSIII moved to Taiwan to learn Chinese, I have been relying on food to make myself feel better. Recently, I think I really ate too much sweets. The record I have was 5 French Macarons and a slice of cake in the morning as breakfast, normal lunch + 1/2 slice of Italian style cheesecake (people who have never try Italian style cheesecake, you really have to give it a try!!! It was new new discovery and I think I love it so much more than the NY style cheesecake!), normal dinner + 1 slice of cake & another 1/2 slice of Italian style cheesecake. That's 3 slices of cake in total plus 5 macarons in one day.
Even I think it was a little bit much! I think I should really take it easy a little bit on sweets. Another thing I have huge craving of is seafood. So when I visited NYC last time, I stopped by Luke's Lobster and grab their lobster roll.

EVERYTHING was so DELICIOUS!!!!!
The chef/owner came out from the kitchen and chatted with us. He was very friendly and super nice. Plus, he gave us this Taiwanese stil fry cabbage in the house!!!

  • My Mille Crêpes - Call me lady N!!!

By far the most tedious sweet I have ever made. But totally worth it!

The original recipe is from "New York Times".
Here is what I did exactly:

The crêpes batter:
6 tablespoons butter
3 cups milk (I used 2%)
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
7 tbsp. sugar
Pinch salt
vegetable oil
Day 1: make the crepe batter and the pastry cream.
1. Cook the butter in a small pan until brown. Set aside.  (This smells really)
2. In another small pan, heat the milk until steaming; allow to cool for 10 minutes.
3. Beat together the eggs, flour, sugar and salt. Slowly add the hot milk and browned butter. Pour into a container, cover and refrigerate overnight.
Day 2:To make the crepes:
1. Bring the batter to RT.
2. Make crepes with ~ 3Tbsp of batter. (I make ~30 crepes).
Vanilla pastry cream:
2 cups milk (2% works just fine)
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch, sifted
3 1/2 tbsp. butter
Day 1:
1. Bring the milk to a boil. Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract then set aside.
2. Prepare an ice bath for the cream (in step 4).
3. In a heavy-bottomed pan, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar and cornstarch. Slowly whisk in the hot milk, then place pan over high heat and bring to a boil and whisking for 1 ~ 2 min. (the consistency changes from liquidy to creamy in seconds! Don't stop whisking!)
4. Press the pastry cream through a fine-meshed sieve for a smoother texture. (This part was hard and tiring!)
5. Set the bowl in the ice bath and stir until the temperature reaches 140 degrees. Stir in the RT butter. When completely cool, cover and refrigerate.
For the cream:
2 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon sugar
Day 2: Whip the heavy cream with the tablespoon sugar. Fold it into the pastry cream.
Finally, assemble the  cake and eat it!!!

新年快樂!!! Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012!!!
今天全家一起來香港跨年。之前都來不及訂跨年餐,所以媽媽姐姐還有我吃完半島的下午茶後決定來洲際酒店看看。這裡地點很棒,特色是緊連著維多利亞港又有整面落地窗,港邊的大廈會來個掛年煙火和燈光秀之類的(和101類似),所以也是相當搶手的場地。(但結論是101大勝!)

去問的時候剛好有一組客人沒有和他們確認訂位,所以當下經理就把位子給了我們。真是謝謝爸爸媽媽讓我有口福了。因為看看這個菜單(均一價):

I absolutely adore French Macarons and finally got a chance to visit this place now. Ladurée is an old French pastry shop and it is almost 150 years now. And Finally opened a NYC location not too long ago.

I was lucky that there weren't too many people in line when I visited. The store is cute with elegant French style decorations. There were only 12 flavors available when  I visited.
After browsing their gift box options for a while, I chose this black one with a chandelier in white on it to be my 1st  Ladurée box. (Although I really don't think those gift boxes are something useful, but definitely cute and worth collecting!)

  • My Killer Clam Pasta!!!



That was so good so RCSIII made a movie about it!

And I am so excited about it so I had to post it here! This has become our favorite seafood pasta at home.
SUPER EASY!!! It's got garlic, dry white wine, some tomato and clam juice. With that base, you can throw in any veggies you want with angle hair pasta and it will be yummy and healthy and awesome!!!
Go try it out!
